#TEams365 #1501: The Duality of Trust: Teams365 Cartoon #14: #FlashbackFriday

Our focus this month is on relationships and a key element of strengthening relationships involves having a strong degree of trust. A couple of years ago I had a series of cartoons designed for the blog. One of my favorites is the Duality of Trust cartoon from illustrator Steven Ro. This was the fourteenth in the series. View the others here.
I thought it would be fitting to spotlight this post – Teams365 #512 with this
Here’s what I wrote:
https://www.potentialsrealized.com/teams-365-blog/teams365-512-relationship-destroyers-the-duality-of-trust-teams365-cartoon-14

Today's blog post is a "repeat" of the Teams365 Cartoon #14 called the duality of trust. Nothing erodes relationships faster than a lack of trust.
This cartoon highlights activities which can build trust such as:

  • Walk my talk
  • Regular, open communication
  • Recognition that is real
  • Follow-through
  • Trusts Others
  • Clear Expectations

On the flip side activities which erode trust include
  • No follow through
  • Little or no feedback
  • Team Favorites
  • Lack of transparency
  • Gossip
  • Doesn't listen

What activities are trust builders and trust destroyers on your team right now? What impact are they having?

This is a topic we explore in the Teams365 Conflict Management and Coaching Skills Training programs, as well as with our offering of the DiSC Predictive Conflict assessments. Contact us to learn about our upcoming virtual and on-demand offerings of these programs, as well as customized coaching skills training for your organization.

It has been a while but it's time for another Jo, the New Team Leader cartoon. In the last week we've been  looking at the topic of accountability. Let's see how Jo and her team create accountability in their team.

If you enjoyed today's cartoon, be sure to check out the other Jo cartoons here at the Teams365 blog. You will find Jo leading a virtual meeting, meeting with her mentor, holding a 1-1 call, etc.

Have  a great start to your week,

Several of you have been enjoying my newest cartoon series here at the Teams365 blog with Jo, a new team leader. The series is all about her adventures. Today's post foreshadows our focus for the next few weeks - managing a remote workforce. In today's post you can see Jo leading a virtual meeting with her team which is scattered across timezones.

Virtual team management is increasingly a core skill for many organizations. We provide support for virtual team leaders and also can provide training in remote team leadership. Contact us for more information.

Teams365 #770: Jo The New Team Leader : #Mentoring Cartoon #2

2/9/2016

Picture
As we continue along with the Adventures of Jo, the new team leader, today she's meeting with her new mentor Steve. A few weeks ago we saw the first part of the meeting with Jo and Steve in this earlier post (Teams365 #759).

Today they are continuing the discussion in their first meeting, talking about when and how often they would like to meet. After supporting hundreds of mentoring partnerships over the last decade I continue to be amazed that when issues crop up it's often around the smaller items like when and where people are going to meet.

It's a good practice to talk abut what is going to work best, and what won't, in the first meting.
For a listing of other things to cover during the first mentoring meeting, read this post (Teams365 #575 - 8 Focus Areas for Your First Mentoring Meeting).

If you are starting a mentoring partnership soon, take a few moments to make a list of what you want to make sure you cover.

With best wishes,
Jennifer

#Teams365 #759: Mentoring Cartoon #1 - Jo the New Team Leader (Cartoon #1)

In today's blog post I am pleased to introduce you to Jo, a new team leader through a new series I'll be hosting here at the Teams365 blog.
In 2014 I  did a series of illustrations which were well received around different leadership topics. This  year we'll be following the adventures of Jo throughout the year.
This week's focus here at the Teams365 blog has been on Mentoring, so in this week's inaugural Jo cartoon, we have her sitting down with her new mentor Steve.
as I've written in the past, the mentor relationship is a key one to any leaders' development. The first meeting is paramount between the mentor and protege or mentee. Some of the topic areas you'll want to discuss include:
  • What you both expect and want to get out of the mentoring relationship?
  • What's going to work well for both of you in terms of meeting time, location, frequency etc?
  • Key goals for the mentoring process?
Stay tuned as we'll see part two of this meeting next week!

Click here to read more posts I've written on mentoring this week and in the past.

Have a great weekend!

Best wishes,
Jennifer

#TEams365 #603: ENCORE Cartoon - Coaching Skills For LEaders

Picture
Matrix leaders especially often lead from a coaching approach given the distance from their employees and the deeper knowledge of the terrain their employees bring. Here's an encore of the 7th Teams365 Team Leader Cartoon on Five Core Coaching Skills. How do you do in these five areas? What could use a tweak?

The five skills are:

1.      Builds trust and gets to know your team members

2.      Asking Questions to stimulate thinking, support action and awareness. Questions to build on what team members already know.

3.      Listening - really listening

4.      Goal Setting – Supports SMART-E Goal Setting

5.       Focuses on Accountability and works with your staff member to check in around their progress regularly

Have a great Wednesday,
Jenn

  • Be specific
  • Make it just-in-time - immediate
  • About Observable Behaviors
  • Relevant - to the work at hand.
  • Two way

Teams365 #279: Teams365 Comic #12: Essentials of Feedback

10/6/2014

Today's cartoon is our twelfth comic in our illustration series with a focus on the Essentials of Feedback. Feedback is an area which many leaders (new and experienced) struggle with.

This week we will take a look at five core elements of providing positive feedback namely:
Be specific
Make it two-way
Base it on observable behaviors
Make it constructive and positive
Make it just-in-time and
Make it relevant

We will look at each one of these in turn starting with tomorrow's post.

As you think about your skills and the way you currently provide feedback - which ones are your strengths? Which one or two could you put some attention around?
