#TEAMS365 #1879 – Team Building Tip 224: Our greatest impact this year has been...

2/21/2019

Picture
It’s Thursday which means that it’s time for another Team Building Tip. This week’s question gets you thinking about where you were as a team a year ago, and where you are now.
Think about what you were doing this time last year.
What was the context?
What were you focusing on?
Now, consider where you are. What projects have you completed? How is your work different? What makes it feel different?

We don't always stop to pause and look at what we've done - what we have achieved and what we have learned. This is an important process for teams. If we don't stop and pause along the way we may not tap into the learning available. Running without pause is also not sustainable and can lead to burnout.

What pauses are you creating in your work right now for the team to stop and look at impact?  How can you do more of what is giving you impact?

Enjoy!
Jennifer

Starting in December 2018 I turned attention to sharing 19 productivity tips for 2019. Each one is relatively short in nature, but applied, has the potential to make a significant impact on your work. We wrapped up with the series last week, and in today’s post I wanted to include a link to all 19 so you can get the bird’s eye view of the tips. Take note of which ones could support you the most in terms of your work and priorities at this time.

Here are links to all 19 of the posts in this series:

1. Have a clear vision. Without a clear vision it is hard to know where to go.

2. Know where you are getting results

3. Know where you are getting your results – 80/20

4. Know Where Your Time Goes. Be ruthless with your time.

5. Systems

6. Chunk it!

7. Make it Visual

8. Tame the inbox!

9. 8 Essential Meeting Questions

10. Support Action & Clarity with 3 Bullet Points

11. Circadian Rhythm – when are you at your best

12. Build in regular time for review

13. Get the important stuff out of the way

14. Content Creation: Repurpose, Reuse, Recycle

15. Avoid analysis/paralysis – Get into action

16. Build relationships

17. Set a Start and an End - Parkinson’s Rule

18. What doesn’t get scheduled, doesn’t get done – Build it in advance

19. Track it!

Which ones would be useful to revisit?

Which one could you apply more fully?

Best wishes,
Jennifer

#TEAMS365 #1874  - Weekly Journaling Prompt #37

2/16/2019

Picture
This week’s weekly journaling prompt gets us to consider the question: “This quarter the theme is….”.

Part of the challenge in today’s VUCA context (were things may be ever-changing as well as volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) is that there is so much to focus on. Having an annual or quarterly theme can help us to ground and focus on what is most important.
What is your theme for this quarter?
As a coach who has asked my clients (often leaders, teams or business owners) this question thousands of times here are some of the themes my clients have set over the years:
  • Acceleration
  • Laser Beam
  • Harpoon
  • Clarity
  • Rest
  • Waterfall – to signify a trust in continued flow
My own theme for 2019 is magnify. I’m finding that this is a great touchpoint for me to return back to as I make decisions, prioritize and consider where to place my time and attention.

This week I hope that you will engage with the question – What is your quarterly theme?

Enjoy!

#TEAMS365 #1859 – Start of Month Planning and Stocktaking!

2/1/2019

Picture
It’s the beginning of another month here at the Teams365 blog. This month I’ll be focusing on wrapping up the 19 for 2019 Productivity Tips, as well as focusing on the topic of team development, relationships and collaboration.
It’s the start of a new month and also time to take stock of what you accomplished in January and also what you have planned for February.  Yesterday I hosted a month end review and planning session. As a monthly event, I am always amazed at how much gets done in any given month, and how valuable it is to take time to do some planning to reflect on lessons learned and take time to plan and focus for the new month.

Reflecting on the month of January:
  • What were my major achievements this month?
  • What do I want to celebrate?
  • As I consider my goals (and resolutions) I made at the start of the year, how am I doing with these on a scale of 1-10? Which ones are becoming new habits or something I can check off?
  • Which goals need to be let go of or changed?
  • What habits have supported me this month?
  • As a leader, what have I noticed about my team this month?
  • As a leader, what notes should I make about performance issues? (if I haven't done it already!)
  • The thing that has helped me be most productive this month has been ______.
  • The thing that has helped me be most successful this month has been ______.
  • The thing that has helped me be happiest this month has been ________.
  • The thing that has helped me be most healthy has been _______.
  • What have I noticed about my work/productivity/results and/or relationships during the winter months (if you are in the northern hemisphere) or summer (if you are in the southern hemisphere)?
  • How am I doing with my theme of the year (how I am living it, embodying it)?

Here are some questions you will want to consider as you step into the new month - Looking ahead to February:
  • The project I want to get started is…
  • The project I most want to wrap up is...
  • I want to leave ______ in the month of January.
  • My priorities are:
  • Our team priorities are:
  • My goals are:
  • My teams goals are:
  • I want to......
  • I'll be really happy at the end of February when….

What else is important to note before you move ahead with the new month?

Enjoy your reflections!

#TEAMS365 #1857 – Productivity Tip 15: Avoid Analysis Paralysis

1/30/2019

Tip #15 – Avoid analysis/paralysis: get into action

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone” – Neal Donald Walsch

When starting or launching new initiatives it can be valuable to just get into action. It’s easy, and can be alluring, to spend time doing more research. I continue to meet a lot of coaches who fail to move into execution stage because they are just not “sure”. They need to do a “bit more research”. The more data we have, the easier it may be to slip into “analysis/paralysis”. This can be a place of overwhelm or “STUCK” for many business owners. There usually is a place where you have “enough” information and can get started.
The tagline for the Coaching Business Builder, and PlanDoTrack, is:

“Consistent Action + Daily Steps = Momentum”

Key to business success is to Get into Action!
As Nike says, “Just do it”.

Consistent action is key for building business in today’s ever-changing world. We often do not know what’s going to have impact until we get it out into the world.

Even in creating group coaching processes, it’s key to get things into action, rather than fall into the analysis-paralysis trap.  We don’t need to know everything, or even anything. We need to trust our clients. Things will change right up to the moment we meet our clients.

So, how much mental energy are you spending in trying to figure out what your clients really want? Holding ideas and thoughts in our head takes up a lot of space. How much mental energy are you spending just thinking about things, considering best and worst-case scenarios without getting into action?

Picture

Conversation Sparkers
  • What is the consistent action you want to take daily in your business?
  • Who can support you in determining when “enough is enough” and you need action?

Best,
Jennifer

#TEAMS365 #1853 -  Weekly Journaling Prompt 34

1/26/2019

Picture
This week’s Journaling Prompt gets you to dream a little. To consider what’s possible for your work. In this week’s journaling prompt you are asked to consider “If we were given an additional $500,000 this year, I would…..”
Take a few minutes today to dream about what would be possible if money were more plentiful.
Consider:
  • What would you focus on?
  • What would you put attention around?
  • What would you say yes to?
  • What would you say no to?
  • What are the elements you would let others do?
  • Where would you place your attention?
As you complete your journaling, then take a look at what you have captured. What’s important about it?

Enjoy the conversation!

#TEAMS365 #1846 Weekly Journaling Prompt 33

This week’s Weekly Journaling Prompt gets you thinking about, and writing around, the question “If I could go back in time, I would….”

Sometimes it can be useful to look backwards to look ahead. What are the inflection points, or events, you would change if you could?

I hope that you enjoy spending a few minutes this week, writing about this question.

Keep in mind the flipside “If I could go forward in time, I would….”

With best wishes,
Jennifer

#TEAMS365 #1839- Weekly Journaling Prompt 32

This week’s journaling prompt is #32 in the series. I started these last summer and they are an invitation to take a few minutes to reflect and focus on what’s important for you right now. Whether you take 5 minutes or 15 minutes, journaling can provide a useful pause to:
  • Reflect
  • Connect the dots

This week’s WJP (Weekly Journaling Prompt) is “A daily practice which is helpful is….”.

Many writers such as Charles Duhigg in the Power of Habit address how important habits can be. At the foundation of habits are daily practices. Things which we can do regularly.

Enjoy!
