teams365 #3778: Friday Flashback - TEAMS 365 #3596: THE POWER OF RESILIENCE: BUILDING INNER STRENGTH FOR LIFE'S CHALLENGES

5/17/2024

Picture
Resilience is the remarkable ability to adapt and bounce back from adversity, setbacks, and challenging situations. It's the quality that allows individuals to face life's trials with a positive outlook, learn from experiences, and emerge stronger. In a world where unpredictability is the norm, fostering resilience is essential. Here's a closer look at what resilience is and how you can cultivate it in your life.

Understanding Resilience
Resilience is not an innate trait; it's a skill that can be developed over time. It involves a combination of mental and emotional strength, adaptability, and the ability to overcome obstacles. Resilient individuals are better equipped to manage stress, cope with change, and maintain a sense of purpose in the face of adversity.

Fostering Resilience
  1. Build a Support System: Surrounding yourself with a network of supportive friends and family is crucial for resilience. These relationships can provide emotional support, offer different perspectives, and help you navigate challenging times.
  2. Cultivate Self-Awareness: Understand your own emotions, reactions, and triggers. Self-awareness is the foundation of emotional intelligence, allowing you to manage your responses more effectively.
  3. Optimism and Positive Thinking: Cultivate an optimistic outlook. Instead of dwelling on problems, focus on solutions. Even in difficult situations, try to identify the opportunities for growth and learning.
  4. Flexibility and Adaptability: Life rarely goes as planned. Developing flexibility and adaptability can help you adjust to unforeseen circumstances and find alternative paths to your goals.
  5. Problem-Solving Skills: Enhance your problem-solving abilities. Break complex challenges into manageable steps and work toward solutions. This approach can make problems seem less daunting.
  6. Set Realistic Goals: Setting achievable goals and managing expectations is essential for resilience. Unrealistic expectations can lead to disappointment, while attainable goals can provide a sense of accomplishment and motivation.
  7. Self-Care: Taking care of your physical and mental well-being is critical for resilience. Maintain a healthy lifestyle by getting enough rest, exercising, and eating well. Also, practice relaxation techniques, such as meditation or deep breathing, to manage stress.
  8. Seek Professional Help: In challenging situations, don't hesitate to seek support from a therapist or counselor. Professional guidance can provide tools and strategies to navigate complex emotional issues.
  9. Learn from Adversity: Every setback offers an opportunity for growth. Embrace failure as a chance to learn, adapt, and develop resilience. Reflect on past experiences to understand how they've shaped you.
  10. Maintain Perspective: Keep life's challenges in perspective. Consider the bigger picture and recognize that setbacks are a part of a larger journey. This can help you maintain hope and focus on the future.

Resilience is not about avoiding adversity but about developing the tools and mindset to overcome it. It's a skill that can be nurtured and strengthened over time. By building a support system, fostering self-awareness, and developing problem-solving skills, you can cultivate resilience and face life's challenges with greater strength and confidence. Ultimately, resilience is not just a survival strategy; it's a path to personal growth and fulfillment.

teams365 #3745: Friday Flashback – Flow

4/12/2024

Picture
Today we’re going to take a look back at an earlier Weekly Journaling Prompt around Flow - TEAMS365 #2707 - WEEKLY JOURNALING PROMPT #153 – FLOW MEANS… #letstalkvirtual #standoutvitually - POTENTIALS REALIZED
This week’s Weekly Journaling Prompt brings us to the prompt of FLOW MEANS.

Flow is an important psychological state for well-being. As I shared back in Teams365 2434 in Weekly Journaling Prompt #114: https://www.potentialsrealized.com/teams-365-blog/teams365-2434-weekly-journaling-prompt-114

When we are able to tap into the river of excitement that can course through our body, and soul, it’s likely that we are tapping into that magical place called FLOW. At moments of flow, time takes on new meaning. Things may feel magical. And it’s usually a signal that we are doing the things we are MEANT to.

What are you noticing about FLOW moments?

What are you noticing about what you are truly excited about?

What do you need to say YES to in order to cultivate more of that?

What do you need to say NO to in order to create more space for the flow?

As we wrap up today’s post, here’s a quote about FLOW from the author himself:

“To overcome the anxieties and depressions of contemporary life, individuals must become independent of the social environment to the degree that they no longer respond exclusively in terms of its rewards and punishments. To achieve such autonomy, a person has to learn to provide rewards to herself. She has to develop the ability to find enjoyment and purpose regardless of external circumstances.”
― Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience

Enjoy your reflection,

Continuing with our weekly theme of the DiSC, here’s a great post from last year which also linked the DiSC to coaching - TEAMS 365 #3532: ELEVATING COACHING WITH DISC: HARNESSING BEHAVIORAL INSIGHTS FOR PERSONAL GROWTH #letstalkvirtual #standoutvirtually #elevatingcoaching - POTENTIALS REALIZED
Coaching is a powerful tool that supports individuals in achieving their goals and realizing their full potential. When combined with the DiSC assessment, coaching becomes even more impactful, offering a tailored approach that aligns with an individual's unique behavioral style. Here's how coaching can leverage the DiSC assessment to foster personal growth and development:

  1. Personalized Approach: DiSC provides a detailed understanding of an individual's behavioral tendencies, communication preferences, and strengths. Coaches armed with this knowledge can tailor their approach to resonate with the client's style, ensuring that coaching sessions are effective and engaging.
  2. Self-awareness and Reflection: DiSC encourages self-awareness by shedding light on how individuals interact with others and approach tasks. Coaches can guide clients in reflecting on their behavioral patterns and exploring how these patterns impact their goals, fostering greater self-awareness and insight.
  3. Effective Communication Skills: Coaching often involves enhancing communication skills. DiSC insights can help individuals understand their communication style, enabling them to adapt and communicate more effectively with others. Coaches can provide guidance on leveraging this understanding to build stronger relationships and connections.
  4. Conflict Resolution and Collaboration: DiSC equips individuals with strategies for conflict resolution based on their style. Coaches can help clients navigate conflicts by applying these strategies, fostering better collaboration and more constructive resolutions.
  5. Goal Setting and Strategy Development: DiSC helps individuals recognize their strengths and challenges. Coaches can leverage this knowledge to assist clients in setting realistic goals, devising strategies that align with their behavioral preferences, and overcoming obstacles with tailored approaches.
  6. Leadership Development: For those in leadership roles, coaching informed by DiSC insights can facilitate leadership growth. Coaches can guide leaders in adapting their leadership style to better suit the needs of their team members, optimizing communication, motivation, and team dynamics.

In conclusion, pairing coaching with the DiSC assessment enhances the coaching experience by providing a deeper understanding of an individual's behavioral style. This synergy enables coaches to personalize their approach, guide self-awareness, enhance communication skills, and navigate challenges using tailored strategies. By leveraging DiSC insights, coaching becomes a dynamic journey of self-discovery, growth, and transformation, ultimately helping individuals achieve their aspirations and flourish in their personal and professional lives.

Next week we are going to turn our attention to the Everything DiSC, one of the assessments I use in my work. Here’s a great Flashback post to get you thinking about the DiSC framework – TEAMS 365 #3527: 5 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO UTILIZE THE DISC ASSESSMENT FOR ENHANCED PERFORMANCE #letstalkvirtual #standoutvirtually #discassessment - POTENTIALS REALIZED

The DiSC assessment is a powerful tool that offers valuable insights into individual behavioral styles, making it an indispensable asset for optimizing team dynamics and performance. Leveraging the DiSC assessment effectively can lead to improved communication, collaboration, and overall team success. Here are five impactful ways to utilize the DiSC assessment for enhanced team performance:

  1. Enhanced Communication: Utilize DiSC insights to tailor communication strategies based on individual preferences. Recognize how different styles prefer to give and receive information, allowing team members to engage in meaningful conversations that resonate with their unique behavioral tendencies.
  2. Strategic Role Allocation: Leverage the DiSC assessment to strategically assign roles and responsibilities within the team. Match each member's strengths to specific tasks, ensuring that every individual can contribute in ways that align with their natural behavioral inclinations.
  3. Conflict Resolution: DiSC insights can facilitate effective conflict resolution by helping team members understand the root causes of disagreements and differences. Encourage open conversations that address conflicts constructively, taking into account each style's approach to resolution.
  4. Team-building Workshops: Organize workshops or training sessions where team members explore their DiSC profiles together. This shared understanding fosters empathy and mutual respect, strengthening relationships and encouraging collaboration.
  5. Leadership Development: DiSC assessments can guide leadership development initiatives by highlighting each leader's strengths and areas for improvement. This personalized approach to leadership training equips managers with the tools to effectively lead and motivate their teams.

By harnessing the power of the DiSC assessment, teams can cultivate an environment of understanding, adaptability, and collaboration. The assessment's insights empower individuals to leverage their unique strengths and interact more effectively with colleagues who possess different behavioral styles. Embracing these five strategies can lead to heightened team performance, improved morale, and a more cohesive and productive work environment.

teams365 #3710: Friday Flashback – The Hybrid Work Styles

3/8/2024

Picture
In 2021 I launched the Hybrid Work Styles Quiz which has been taken by thousands. It’s a quick 2 minute quiz which can support you in thinking a little more about your work preferences in the evolving world of work. Whether youa re in the office four days a week or still working remotely, the workspace is continuing to be super flexible in many instances, which means that there’s value in us each individually understanding what our work style preferences are.

In the Hybrid Work Styles Quiz™ there are five different styles as I share in my 2022 TEDx Talk – Coaching Teams Through Chaos. You can view that at Coaching Teams Through Chaos | Jennifer Britton | TEDxTrinityBellwoodsWomen (youtube.com)

What is your primary style? Is it:
Visionary –
Builder  -
Innovative Experimenter
Connector
Social Coordinator
OR Culture Wizard
As an Innovative Experimenter™ myself, I am an advocate for ongoing experimentation and learning. As I shared in the 52 Weeks series at the Remote Pathways Podcast in 2020, here’s what I wrote about Experimentation –
In supporting experimentation in our team, we want to:
• Encourage and reward trial and error
• Create safety around not getting “things right”
• Provide team members with time and resources to experiment, beyond their everyday team responsibilities
• Facilitate an evaluation of projects or “Experiments” that are completed or are even at the midpoint
Questions we may ask at project reviews include:

Practically, incorporating more experimentation may look like:
• Putting shorter time windows on projects, with quicker checkpoints to see what is working, and what is not
• Moving projects out of design phase and into beta more quickly so that pilots can be rolled out and/or early adopters can take the program for a test drive
• Looking at testing a couple of different strategies at the same time, with the notion that they may not be as fully developed as they have been in the past. Early results may inform what gets further developed and/or followed

teams365 #3668: Day 26 – Friday Flashback – Boosting the opportunity for success

1/26/2024

Picture
I thought that it would be interesting to look back at past January series to see what I had written about goal achievement and keeping the momentum going. Here’s what I wrote several years ago…hope that it’s useful
Today’s Flashback Friday takes us back to December 2015 and my post entitled  “2016 Resolutions and Support To Make Them Happen”– you can read it here.

Here’s what I wrote:

"As you have been thinking about your plans this year, I'm sure a few new resolutions have cropped up. Some common ones I've heard from team leaders in recent years have included:

* Spending more one-on-one time with team members
* Making meetings more efficient
* Getting a handle on email management and/or other office organizing issues
* Creating more defined boundaries with time on and time off of work
* Creating more defined boundaries around technology
* Becoming more efficient with time
* Getting more exercise (especially at lunch time to create a break and thinking time!)

What are your new year's resolutions? Take a look at the statistics around new years resolutions which StatisticsBrain.com have shared here.

They note that 45% of American adults create new years resolutions with 8% being successful. That's a pretty low percentage. I've recently had dialogue with a number of team leaders I coach and support around things they may want to do to raise that amount and be more successful.

Here are four things you might want to consider in making your resolutions stick this year:
1. Be clear in articulating them. The StatisticsBrain.com article  notes that those who are explicit in making new years resolutions are 10x more successful in achieving their goal.

2. Write them down and make them visible. Many of us, myself included, set resolutions but don't make them visible. Post its, or a reminder on your phone can help to
What will help keep your goals visible?

3. Share them and create some accountability partners around them. Share your goals with others and create some accountability partners who can cheer you on, or hold your feet to the fire (whatever is needed by you in that moment!). We know from lots of studies how important having an accountability partner really is.
Who do you want to share your resolutions with? Who can be a support or accountability partner to you?

4. Be selective in the number of resolutions you choose. It's very easy to create a long laundry list of things you want to do AND the more we add to the list, the harder it may be to remember, or the more diffuse our efforts become. You may have one or two major goals in different areas of your life, OR a small handful across areas (such as finances, relationships, career/business, family, health etc).
Ultimately, what are the resolutions you want to focus on?"

As we continue to move throughout the year, I hope that you’ll be able to incorporate some of these tips. What are your goals for the new year? What will help you be successful with them?
Enjoy and congrats again on your focus this month. Remember, it’s the small steps and daily action that get us moving!

Have a great day,
Jennifer

Teams 365 #3640: Friday Flashback - TEAMS365 #1822- QUESTIONS TO SUPPORT YOUR YEAR END PLAN

12/22/2023

Picture
This week we’re heading into the last main week of work for many. With that in mind, let’s flash back to some questions you can use to take stock of the year in Teams365 #1822 – Questions for Your Year End Plan

Today is Boxing Day here in Canada, and in the years before Black Friday also became common place in our shopping malls, Boxing Day was the day of the year to scoop up great savings. I was told as a child the reason for why it is called Boxing Day is because of the focus on filling the boxes with goodies for the end of the year. Regardless, for most of us, our attention is now turning to the end of the year and reflections on the year that was.

In today’s post I wanted to provide you with several questions to support you with your year end planning. Today, we are going to start with taking a look back at the year that was, and in another few days we’ll look at planning for the year head. To get some inspiration (and leverage) I reached back and took a look at what I wrote a couple of years ago, on Boxing Day 2016. Read it here.

Here are ten questions to support you in reflecting back on the last year:
1. What's been your biggest success this year?
2. What are you most proud of accomplishing? OR What were your greatest results?
3 What habits have most supported you this year?
4. What three adjectives sum up the year for you?
5. What were key relationships instrumental to your success and experience this year?
6. What has been your biggest, and most important, learning this year?
7. If you were to give this year a book title, what would it be?
8. What do you want to make sure you keep doing in the new year? What do you want to stop doing?
9. What do you want to acknowledge yourself for?
10. How and when will you celebrate the successes of 2018? With whom?

Do make a point to take some time today to reflect AND WRITE these ideas down. If you have not created a journal for yourself for the new year, perhaps today is he day to grab a new book, or start a new file. As I wrote several weeks ago, there are many benefits of journaling, check them out here.

Best,
Jennifer

teams 365 #3612: Flashback Friday - TEAMS365 #1962:  TEAMWORK IN UNCERTAINTY: EMPOWERING YOUR TEAM WITH THE SPACE TO EXPERIMENT

11/24/2023

Picture
Another part of successful teamwork in uncertainty is giving people the space to experiment and try things out. This goes hand-in-hand with cultivating curiosity.

Experimentation is not just a strategy for small business and start ups, in fact, encouraging intrapreneurism has been a part of larger organizations for many decades now, including organizations like 3M.

Experimentation and trying things out can be a key business strategy when things are changing. Part of the success of this business strategy is that we also track.

When fostering an environment of experimentation, consider these questions:
  • Before you start an experiment, where are you? 📍
  • What do the metrics say? 📊
  • What do you want to measure?📏
  • How long and at what frequency will the experiment last?⏳
  • What is your hypothesis? I.e. What do you think will happen?📈

Recently I posted the daily business prompt as part of the #90Days Plan Do Track series over on Instagram at CoachingBizBuilder.

Ways we can encourage more experimentation:
  • Provide people with stretch zones
  • Work with real business challenges. Encourage a peer exploration of different options and perspectives around key business issues. It might be that you are looking for different ways to get services or products out to market or how to magnify sales.
  • Explore opportunities for cross-departmental sharing with a view to learning from other’s best practices and ways of working. This cross-pollination of ideas may lead to new ways of working in your department.

What else might you do to encourage more experimentation?

Best wishes,
Jennifer

Five reasons why it’s important to take time to revisit your vision at this time are:
  • It provides an opportunity to reflect on how far you have come this year
  • It provides a baseline for future reference
  • It provide an opportunity to come together as a team to do some envisioning around What’s Possible
  • It provides an opportunity to set some core goals and have those enshrined in something you can refer back to on a regular basis.
  • And perhaps most importantly, it provides an opportunity to stop, pause and have a conversation around what’s important for you as a team.

What are you next steps? Contact me directly by email at [email protected] or by phone at 416.996.8326 to learn more about how we can bring the Draw Your Future into your organization.

Warm regards,
Jennifer
