teams 365 #3358: Setting Your Virtual, Remote or Hybrid New Hire Up For Success! Part 1

You've got a new team member starting with you and they're knee deep into an organizational new hire orientation.  You've spent a couple meetings with them so far to discuss the team’s semantics, but how do you get them set up to start to carve a space for themselves on your remote or hybrid team, where facetime is a luxury?

When planning your new team member’s induction, set them up for success by incorporating the 9 key success factors for remote work: 

1.  Be Visible - Go out of your way to schedule meet and greets with key stakeholders within the organization at various levels for the new team member.  Sign them up for training, industry events and a welcome virtual lunch.  Ask for their input as well and incorporate learning into the performance goals.

2.  Offer Value - Since trust begets trust, have a conversation about what value the new hire feels they have to offer and coach them to speak to this success during meet and greet meetings.

3.  Be consistent - In our world of uncertainty, being consistent is key.  Set a level playing field for all team members, follow through and model the expectations yourself. Set reminders in your calendar, and ensure your new hire does the same.

4.  Collaborate - No person is an island.  Encourage your new hire through coaching to fully understand and explore how their role intermingles with the others on the team and offer ways to collaborate with team members.

Since it’s launch on October 1st of 2021, I’ve continued to hear how much leaders, teams and coaches enjoy the 90-Day Guide for Success. It’s being used in organizations including public sector, health care and also tech.

You may have heard a lot about Chat GPT, the incorporation of AI into writing and content creation. Last week I started experimenting with it, to see how we might find it of value here at the Teams365 blog, as well as in our training programming. Each week on Wednesday I will be sharing a new Chat GPT blog post around some of the different focus areas we explore here at the Teams365 blog. 
First up, a Chat GPT 300-word blog post on 6 Ingredients Teams Need to Excel TODAY. As you read it, not how closely aligned it is with the different topics we’ve spent the last 9 years exploring here at the Teams365 blog. Now over to chat GPT:
6 Essential Ingredients for Effective Teams Today
Teams are the backbone of many organizations and play a crucial role in their success. However, to be effective, teams need more than just a common goal and a shared workspace. Here are six essential ingredients that all teams need today to perform at their best:
  1. Clear communication: Teams must have open and transparent communication to ensure that everyone is on the same page and that ideas can flow freely.
  2. Trust and mutual respect: Team members must trust and respect one another to build strong relationships and work collaboratively towards a common goal.
  3. Diverse perspectives: Teams need individuals from diverse backgrounds and with a range of skills to bring fresh ideas and approaches to problem-solving.
  4. Adaptability: Teams must be flexible and adaptable to change, as the business environment is constantly evolving and new challenges arise.

Creating A Pause: We are often moving so quickly through life that we don’t have a lot of pause to stop, reflect and think about what is important. What do you notice about creating a pause in your work and life?
Slowing Down to Speed Up – The last few years have enabled us to consider what we might shed, or say no to, in order to speed up. What is important for you to slow down around?
Conflict Resolution Skills – Competing priorities, hybrid work, and competing demands lead to the importance of conflict resolution skills. What can you do to build your conflict muscle?
