#TEAMS365 #1917: Month End and Q2 Review and Reflection

3/31/2019

Picture
It is the end of another month, and also a quarter. What are the key things you want to make sure you take note of, celebrate and review?

Here are several questions you will want to explore as you consider month and quarter end:

Reflecting on March and/ or the entire quarter:
  • What have been your successes this month?
  • What didn’t work? Why?
  • What are the changes you would make in the future to that?
  • What has been your biggest learning?
  • What habits have supported you?
  • What things have gotten in the way?
  • Where have you been getting your results?
  • What metrics do you want to note?

Looking ahead to the next quarter or the next month:
  • What are the things you need to prioritize gong forward – next month? Next quarter?
  • What do you need to say "no" to?
  • What resources are going to help you be successful?
  • What relationships are critical for success?
  • What do you want to make sure you are communicating? To whom?
  • What do you want to make sure you schedule time in for?
  • Thinking about your metrics, what are the things that you want to track on a regular basis. What are the goals you hope to achieve or hit around these in the next period?

Last week I enjoyed leading a session using a new Quarterly Review form. I made this supplementary form available to those who receive my PlanDoTrack newsletter. If you'd like to become a subscriber and receive this monthly newsletter related to planning, and virtual team issues, please sign up here.

I hope that you will find some time today to celebrate your learning and achievements for q1. Please pass this link on to others who could benefit from some reflection and planning time.

Enjoy your reflections,
Jennifer

#TEAMS365 #1916 – Weekly Journaling Prompt 43

It’s time for another Saturday Weekly Journaling prompt, this one number 43 in the series. This week’s weekly journaling prompt is “One thing to automate is….”.

Scaling business is a primary goal of many solopreneurs and others. As part of scaling work and business, it may be useful to look at those tasks that are repetitive and done consistently. What are the things you can automate? What are the things you can systematize?

If you were to automate something, what would it provide time for?

Best wishes,
Jennifer

#TEAMS365 #1915 – FlashbackFriday: From the Vault: Forming – The Initial Stages of Team Development

3/29/2019

Picture
I thought I would take a look back to the March 2014 posts to see what I was talking about five years ago here at the blog. What was interesting to me was that that month we were talking about team development and team formation, one of the key areas I continue to get questions around.

I dedicated five posts in March 2014 to discussing Tuckman’s model of forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. This model to group and team formation has stood the tests of time, and is something that I continue to see in my work in person and virtually.

Here’s what I shared about the first stage of team formation in Teams365 #70:

The first stage of team formation is the FORMING stage. Whether it's a new project team coming together, or a new leader joining the team, there are several characteristics common at the FORMING Stage:

1. Team is getting to know each other
2. Safety needs are high, trust levels are low or non-existent
3. Goals, vision and values are needing to be created

As a leader it is important to:
1. Clarify expectations you have.
2. Have the group or team create shared expectations of each other
3. Create opportunities for people to get to know each other
4. Ensure that safety needs are met.

What else is important at the forming stage? What have you noticed in past instances where teams are forming?

Check out what happens in the storming, norming, performing and adjourning stages.

What are you noticing about where your group or team is right now? What are they yearning for?

Enjoy the conversations,
Jennifer

#TEAMS365 #1914 – Team Building Tip 229

This week’s team building tip gets the team to discuss the question “If we could do one thing differently this year, it would be….”

Spending time surfacing dialogue around alternative perspectives can be important for teams who feel that dialogue is not available.

Enjoy the discussion!

Over the last few years I have written about a number of virtual team resources I think you will find interesting and valuable.

Also, if you haven’t taken a look at my latest book, PlanDoTrack Workbook and Planner for Remote and Virtual Professionals, be sure to check out the related blog which includes posts related to virtual teams, working remote and virtual productivity. You can find the blog here.

Recently I have been posting 2-3 times a week with unique posts geared to these topics, including a new Friday series which is running throughout 2019 geared for virtual business development.

If you are on Facebook, join us at the PlanDoTrack Facebook page, with resources geared to productivity and also virtual professionals. You can connect here.

I have set up a virtual communication group over at Mighty Networks called the Conversation Sparker Zone. You can connect around topics related to virtual teams, productivity, business development and/or group and team coaching issues. I hope that you will join us and drop in for some conversation. Click here to join the conversation. Once there you can select which threads you want to follow.

Finally, I am continuing to host regular calls related to Effective Virtual Conversations (my 2017 book). The latest call was held earlier this week. Check past calls at my YouTube Channel. Calls are usually held on Mondays from 11 – 11:30 am ET on the first and second week of the month.

What resources do you want to explore for your virtual team?

Warm regards,
Jennifer

#TEAMS365 #1912 – Appreciations in a Virtual Team

3/26/2019

Picture
Teams excel when they have a clear focus on results, and the resources and tools to accomplish them, and when they are also focused on relationships.

This month I have been sharing different activities virtual and remote teams may consider integrating into their work. If you didn’t take a look at last week’s post on Creating Virtual Team Culture, take a look at it now.

Today’s post invites you to consider integrating appreciations in your work as a virtual team. What are the pauses you have created so people can thank others and acknowledge them for their strengths?

Peer feedback is often found to be more valuable and impactful that feedback from a superior or other.

To facilitate this activity, make sure you have adequate time. It may take 15 minutes or more. If you have a larger team (8 or more) have people work in triads (use breakouts for this if you are virtual – which is likely).

One at a time, have someone in the “appreciation seat”. Their colleagues are asked to share:
  1. What is an example when I have seen you at your best this week/this month/this quarter?
  2. I see one of your strengths as….
  3. I appreciate….

This should then be rotated so each person gets a chance to receive feedback.
This exercise can also be added onto by discussion around additional questions such as:
  • One thing I wish you would do more of is….
  • I can rely on you for…
  • One request I have for you is….

This can provide space for more support and difficult conversations.

Enjoy!

#TEAMS365 #1911 – Effective Virtual Conversations Tip 87

3/25/2019

Picture
This week’s Effective Virtual Conversations tips #87 asks you to consider the question “What connection between calls work best?”.

In the virtual space there may be things that you want to focus on before the conversation and after. If you are working with groups are longer term, consider what connection between calls will work best for them. This could include:
  • Emails between calls
  • A daily focus question for people to explore
  • A message board where people can post – this could be hosted in a Facebook community, or another private network like Mighty Networks
  • Peer assignments where peers meet for short 15-minute calls to discuss a question, or talk about action towards their goals
  • A one-on-one call with you to go deeper into the areas that are most important

What are the things that will help you as a group keep the focus on what’s important for the group – whether this is learning more, having ongoing dialogue, or taking ongoing action? Be sure to schedule time for these activities as they are often the first things that come off the list.

Enjoy!

#TEAMS365 #1909 – Weekly Journaling Prompt #42

This week’s weekly journaling prompt gets you to think about the question: “I need…..”. What are the things you need right now to:
  • Prioritize?
  • Spend time doing what you love?
  • Focus on the things that are important?
  • Get ahead of the curve?
  • Other….?

We don’t always think about what we need, nor make the requests to make it happen.

What are the things you need right now?

If you haven’t done so already, be sure to check out the reflective questions for spring, published yesterday here at the blog. Check out Teams365  #1908.

Best,
Jennifer

#TEAMS365 #1908 – First Day of Spring – Quarterly Stock Taking

3/22/2019

Picture
Happy spring! Has the new season sprung where you are?

In my work as a coach I see a lot of seasonality – beginnings, ends and excitement for change. As we step into the new season today, I wanted to share some of the spring questions I had posted in Teams365 #811.

I hope that you will take a few minutes to reflect on these questions today:

What are your goals this season?
What new habits and practices do you want to put into place?
What relationships do you want to put attention around?
What else is significant for you this spring (or fall)?

Looking backwards:
What successes did you have over the last quarter?
What helped you?
What got in the way?

What changes do you want to make this spring?
What and who will help you be successful?

What are the other questions which are important to consider right now?

Enjoy your reflection,
Jennifer
