It’s the last day of January and what was your month like? This month I really enjoyed the 21 for 21 series o Virtual Co-working Sprints. It was amazing to see people taking consistent action on a regular basis and getting traction around the projects which were important to them!

It was such a positive experience that I am committed to hosting these each month from the 1st to 21st . You can join us

Now on to the month in review….here are some questions I hope you will find useful as you take stock of January and look to the month ahead:
January reflection questions:
  1. As you reflect on January, what were your successes and accomplishments?
  2. What are you most proud of?
  3. What momentum did you start to create in your work?
  4. What successes this month do you want to duplicate?
  5. What top 3 learning have you head that you want to carry forward?
  6. What key relationships have helped you so far this year? Which ones need more attention?
  7. What has helped your successes?
  8. What habits supported you this month?
  9. What has hindered or gotten in the way?
  10. What does your team need to be acknowledged for?

As you look to February, consider these questions:
  11. What are your key priorities for February?
  12. What are the key goals?
  13. What are the major priorities?
  14. What will you need to place attention on?
  15. What changes do you want to make in February?
  16. What habits do you want to leverage
  17. When will you check in to explore your progress, and make changes?
  18. What resources do you want to tap into?
  19. Who can help you be successful this month?

Enjoy the reflection and I hope you will join us for the February series of sprints. The cost to attend the 21 day series is $49 US.

Enjoy your conversations,
Jennifer

TEAMS365 #2586 – Team Building Tip #276: Micro-pauses

1/28/2021

Picture
This week’s Team Building Tip gets you to think about the question – Where would we benefit from a micro-pause? A micro-pause is simply the opportunity to stop and reflect, and consider what changes you want to make.

Without these opportunities to stop and pause our actions may be very automated rather than intentional. As I have stressed multiple times, being more intentional work our actions and focus in the remote space can mean the difference between getting by and thriving.

Micro-pauses can take many shapes. From short team huddles, to individual pause points earmarked to plan and focus for 15 minutes.

Where would you benefit from a micro-pause?

TEAMS365 #2585 – Feedback Conversations in Virtual Teams

1/27/2021

Picture
This winter I’m working on the final edits of a new book around virtual and remote work, teams and leadership. The book’s bee in process for quite some time now, even pre-pandemic, given that remote teams have been my focus for several years.

One of the most challenging areas that teams and leaders experience is providing feedback. Consider how much feedback you have received about your performance – the good and bad – in the last year of working remotely? A little? A lot? None?

Feedback in the remote space can be particularly challenging given that we don’t always see people in action. Work in the remote space has become a lot more output and results oriented, rather than individually focused. At the same time, it’s critical that we do provide feedback to the person who is aiming for the output and results.

Some key tips for providing feedback in the remote space:
Make it frequent. Schedule it in.

Tie feedback to results. Feedback can be an important part of the performance cycle.

Consider providing feedback on both the positive and constructive fronts. Given that performance in the remote space can sometimes feel like we are operating in a vacuum and don’t get any feedback, provide people with both positive and constructive feedback. IT might sound like “here’s what I see as one of your strengths” and “here’s an area I’d value some impact around”…

What else is important or you to note about feedback as a virtual or remote team?

Jennifer

TEAMS365 #2584 – 6 Layers of Connection in any Virtual Conversation

1/26/2021

Picture
The virtual and remote work and business world appears flat but has multiple layers. It’s in these layers that we get to see the nuance and significance.

This past year as I’ve brought the Stand Out Virtually brand and programming out into the world, many I’ve spoken with have been intrigued by the notion of the Six Layers of Connection. Consider your most recent conversations and what helped you create connection. Likely it included connection to these five layers.

These of course, are beyond the first and most important layer, connection to themselves. Helping people connect the focus of the call with their WIIFM, or what’s in it for me is paramount for a great virtual experience. What are the elements which are important for you?

Connection to the Topic – First, what’s the connection with the topic. Why is it important to them? How does the topic have relevance in their life?

Connection to You – What is the connection with you the Leader or Facilitator of the Call.

Connection to Others on the call – Without a connection to others on the call the learning process may not go as deep as it could.

Connection to the Content – What is the connection to the content you are engaging in? What are those elements which are important to you?

Connection to the Platform  - What is the elements of the platform (Zoom, Teams or other) which will help you in moving the call forward?

Connection to your Context – What are you doing to connect what you are leaning and talking about to the wider context? It’s key that we spend time focusing on the wider context, and not leave learning on the screen.

What is important for you to put a focus around?

Enjoy your conversations,
Jennifer

TEAMS365 #2583 – Stand Out Virtually Principle – Connect to the WIIFM

1/25/2021

Picture
Welcome back to another Monday! This week’s Stand Out Virtually Principle is “Connect to the WIIFM” or the What’s In It For Me. There is a limited window available in virtual calls to help people connect in with what’s most important to them around the topic we are leading. Connecting people in, or not, means the difference between an engaged call, and one that may miss the mark.

In order to help people connect with their WIIFM, consider these approaches:

#1 – Ask the question directly –“What’s important about this topic to you?”.

#2 – Ask a related question of “Share a recent example of this topic with others”

#3 – Get people to work with visuals like an ICON

#4 – Share a (short) video about the topic

#5 – Share a quick story about it and then get others connected in to their own story

If we are not given the opportunity to connect in to the topic and what’s relevant, it’s likely that we will disengage from the conversation. What’s important to note in your work right now?

Enjoy your conversations,
Jennifer

WOW! What an accomplishment. We’ve just spent the last 21 days doing a series of 21 minutes of virtual co-working EVERY Day. That added up to 7 hours and 35 minutes of found time!

I’ve had the pleasure of taking more than 20 people through the process over the last 21 days. Whether they joined us live or remotely, it’s been amazing to see the learning and insights play out.

We also followed the anchoring blog posts which were published here at the Teams365 blog, with the 21 Stand Out Virtually productivity tools. What do you notice about what you got done in the time allotted if you participated.

It was so much fun that I’m committed to doing it all again during the first 21 days of February. Join us – the cost to participate is going to be $79 US which will give you access to all the recordings, worksheets and a special end of each week celebration.

Here’s what people loved about the process.

Enjoy your conversations,
Jennifer
