Several of these are:
Being clear about the process and what people can expect. What's the purpose of the session? What levels of engagement should people expect?
Being clear about the outcomes of the call - What can people expect to leave with OR you might ask them to consider their top outcome for the call by asking them "What do you want to leave with?"
Watching pace changes - keeping people focused in the virtual environment is key. You are probably competing with email and other tasks immediately at hand. Adjusting the pace by asking questions, getting people to reflect, verbalize or do something every few minutes turns a dull virtual event into an engaging one
Connecting participants with the WIIFM early on - WIIFM - What's in it for me - is a foundational principle of any engaging presentation. helping people connect early on with how the topic relates to their work and why it is important, creates an environment where people are not just a passive acceptor or information
Knowing the platform and being confident with it. it's important to be as well versed as possible with the technical side of things - for both the facilitator and participant. If people are not familiar with the platforms you are using, make sure you provide clear Add to dictionary, tutorial or advance, or tips along the way. Those . When people are not as familiar with the technology you may need to adjust the amount and type of content covered, along with the types of instructions and activities you choose.
Two others include creating an environment of trust and also making sure people feel connected. We'll focus in on these two areas in future posts.
