What was once considered "woo-woo" has been used very successfully for some time now. Visualization is key in high performance. In fact, many of the top national athletic teams all over the world have been using visualization techniques to support them in achieving their best at the Olympics and other World Class sporting events.
Visualizing success is key in today's business workplace as well. Many posts here at the TEams365 blog have been dedicated to the topic of vision. We know that high performing teams have a shared vision. Taking this one step further is really making that vision real - so that you can see it, imagine it and even taste it!
Years ago I supported a hopstial foundation team over the course of several years. During one of their annual retreat programs I had them create a team storyboard of their vision, using a variety of materials. They took the board back with them to their office and hung it just outside of the elevators. It stayed there for quite some time and when I visited them months later several staff noted how powerful it was as a focusing tool for the team, but also in communicating with others at the hospital what they were focusing on. This helped to amp up their results ina very tough funding climate.
