Major businesses realize mid-way in to a project that the assumptions it was built on are no longer valid. Even though they may be well into the project execution they realize that it may be better to stop and abandon the project, either retooling for the context, or leave it all together. Many team leaders are uncomfortable in making such a bold decision as this, but consider the implications of not stopping.
