If you are just finding your way to the Teams365 blog, welcome! Each Monday I highlight a tip to facilitate more engaging virtual conversations - whether it's a webinar, a team meeting, or a virtual team event. These come from my latest book - Effective Virtual Conversations.
Effective Virtual Conversations tip #26 bring us to a tip from page 210 where I write "Getting it into your body, brain and voice - practice makes perfect".
In anything we do - leading a team, leading a virtual conversation, or growing a business - development and mastery of skills and approaches takes time, AND practice. In the realm of virtual conversations it means reviewing what you are planning to do and making tweaks. It's also about verbally saying it, not just reading your notes through. How we sound on a call may be very different from the words you have chosen.
Some tips for practice, and review, before an important virtual conversation is:
Make sure you have walked through your plan, and preferably made some notes, particularly around:
- how you will start
- how you will end
- what are the top 3 points you want to reinforce
- what are the engagement points to bring everyone's voice into the room
- what do you need to do, or have in place before the call (think recordings, list of participants etc)
It's important to also experiment with how you are sitting and even standing in your work. Leading a virtual call doesn't always have to be from behind a desk. Think about what is going to boost your energy if a higher energy is needed.
What are the practical, and tactical, steps you want to go through to boost your next call? If you haven't checked out any of the EVC Community Calls I have hosted this fall, be sure to check out the Pre-Program Checklist call I did in October where I review in detail many of the practical things you will want to cover before jumping on a call. Check out the fall 2017 EVC calls here.
With best wishes,
Jennifer
