There are a number of great models around trust which have been developed by experts. Two that I continue to refer to leaders and clients that I work with are:
Stephen Covey's Speed of Trust and Smart Trust
Reina and Reina's Trust and Betrayal in Today's Workplace
The models are different but they are grounded in the fact that trust is built by what we bring to the table as an individual - our character, as well as our skill, or competence in something.
Linda Hill and Kent Lineback, wrote a great article for HBR on Trust entitled "To Build Trust, Competence is Key". They do a great job of going into the different knowledge bases which can be useful
