Many of us may recall our first year psychology classes at college or university talking about internal and external motivators. Are we motivated by things in our locus of control or outside of our control. How does acknowledgement by others influence our levels of motivation?
As team leaders it is important to recognize that what motivates us is not what motivates our team members. Even the way we recognize our team members is not going to work for everyone.
In exploring preferences and styles I work with a lot of teams and team leaders using the EverythingDiSC suite of profiles. As a leader it's critical to become aware of our own styles and impact. Two profiles many of my clients find useful are the Everything DiSC Work of Leaders, and the Everything DisC Workplace Profile.
