“Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
It’s very easy in business and work today to get BUSY. VERY BUSY.
At the end of the day what are the key activities which are going to move you ahead in the short-term and long-term.
A common pitfall for business owners is trying to do it all. If you are a solopreneur it is likely that not everything that needs to get done every day, does get done. Emerging issues, client requests, and creative ideas can create a crowded To-Do List.
This not only leads to falling into the shiny red object syndrome (where we follow those things that look nice) but it can also lead to overwhelm.
Starting the day reminding yourself of your Top 5 or Top 3 Priorities can be key in getting the important things done. As Von Goethe’s quote reminds us, it’s important to keep sight on the most important things.
Having our Top 5 in mind, can help us:
- Prioritize what needs to get done
- Say yes and say no to tasks
- Get the important things off our list, rather than get them carried forward, and forward, and forward….
ActivityWith your vision in mind, start each day (or week) with a list of your Top 3 – 5 priorities.
Keep these visible in a place to remind yourself of what they are, helping you make decisions about where you want to focus your time.
Conversation Sparkers
What are your Top 3 – 5 key activities for the day? The week? The month?
What is important about these tasks in the big picture? The long term?
When are you going to schedule in time to get these done?
What do you need to say NO to, in order to get these completed?
With best wishes,
Jennifer
